Obviously, nobody wants to spend more money (especially so in an economic environment that is overall deflationary and prices go down for many commodities). It's good since it raises further the used value on my instruments. It's good since it shows that there is a demand out there. Generally speaking, I can see this as a positive (even though I'm potentially in the market for a Gibson acoustic at some point). If I were to get a 2015 Gibson, it would be an ES of some kind from the Gibson Memphis shop. The Gibson neck shape I've liked the best on a 2015 model has been the ES-339 Special I played a while back, and it was $1,599. I'm not a Gibson basher I just don't like the neck shapes on the 2015 models and hope they go back to the old shapes. Of course the bottom of the lineup USA Gibson is going to cost less than the bottom of the lineup USA Fender - labor and overhead is much less in Tennessee, even though the construction is a bit more involved (gluing in the neck, running wiring through channels a bit more than on a Tele). The cost of doing business (licenses, environmental regulations, taxes, etc.) is also much lower in Tennessee than it is in California. was priced just under the American Special models - it was $899 American Special Strats/Teles are $999 - I think that is a more fair comparison than to an American Standard model (unless 1100 pounds is the price of an American Special in the UK then I stand corrected).ĭon't forget that cost of living in Tennessee is far less than the cost of living in California.

They are starting to blow out the 2015 Gibsons over here as well how much off is that 699 pounds price? Over here, before they started discounting, the LP Jr. Why spend more for us stuff? I do believe they are hurting the guitar market. The guitar plays like a dream, and looks awesome as well. Just about a year ago I purchased a new charvel soloist with emg's and Floyd rose tremelo for $448 out the door at guitar center. In short I believe Fender is wrong producing so many low/midrange line guitars (under any of their brands) retailing for peanuts that are high quality, why buy their high dollar stuff? Next up would be for the down right beautiful PRS offerings, and yes those I do believe are overpriced, but yet still have one on my radar.

I don't feel that is overpriced, but I am waiting for a special before I purchase. Retail for the studio version I want is $1599 with the case.

I will buy a new es 335 or 339 this year 2015. I also feel both companies suffer from quality control issues and here I sit on a strat forum. I agree the Gibson pricing increase is not well liked or accepted, I also will admit compare the looks of a new Gibson to a new Fender and it is obvious the Gibson stuff is like art.
